-Mission Statement-


This international magazine will seek to exemplify achievers, exhibit existing talent and cultivate room for more, portray women issues and enable the exchange of solutions. Acting as a guide for all those girls or women who occasionally seek friendly advice, this magazine will feature informative articles as well as nurture the intellectual's spirit by featuring fictional and literary excerpts.

The magazine will encourage the Sikh woman to rediscover herself in the light of the glorious heritage and current meritorious achievements of the Sikh community by following the illustrious principles as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

It shall strive to uphold the Sikh principles of gender equality and assertiveness of women while reflecting upon the basic responsibilities and tasks that a Sikh woman fulfills during her lifetime.

  The magazine shall also endeavor to create a basic standard for community journalism whereby Sikh women from the South Asian region will be encouraged to participate in this international exchange of culture and philosophy and thereby help bridge the gap between the women of Punjab and the Diaspora.

A CANADIAN BREAKFAST

In this fast paced world, most women are struggling to strike a balance between home & career. Cooking is one thing that's most often ignored whenever career demands more time. Here are four breakfast recipes- nourishing and delicious to keep your loved ones happy and asking for more!




CAFÉ SPECIALE

Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 teaspoons chocolate syrup    
¼ tsp nutmeg
½ cup heavy cream
1 tbsp sugar
¾ tsp cinnamon
1-½ cups extra-strength hot coffee

Put 1 teaspoon chocolate syrup into each of the 4 cups. Combine cream, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. Whip. Stir remaining ½ teaspoon cinnamon into hot coffee. Pour coffee into cups. Stir to blend with syrup. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle some cinnamon powder for garnishing.

STRAWBERRY MILK SHAKE

Ingredients:
10 Unflavored cookies
1½ cup any strawberry ice cream
2 cups Strawberry flavoured milk
8 large frozen strawberries

Mix all the ingredients together in the blender and within 30 seconds, you have a rich creamy strawberry shake to add some colour to your breakfast menu . Serve immediately after preparation.


Vegetarian Banana Cinnamon Pancakes

Serves 4

Are you looking to surprise your family with a special Canadian treat? How about some hot pancakes on a Sunday morning for your loved ones? Here's how to cook these delicious and easy non-dairy pancakes

Ingredients

1 ripe banana , mashed
2 cups water
½ cup uncooked oatmeal
1 ½ cups whole-wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Vanilla extract (optional)

Mix together mashed banana and water. Add dry ingredients and mix, leaving lumps in the batter - you must leave lumps in the batter. Pour 1/2 cup of batter into a hot, lightly oiled frying pan. When bubbles rise through the middle of the pancake and break on the top, flip the pancake and cook until browned underneath.

(Note: To check the right temperature for cooking, throw a few drops of water onto it. If the water jumps around and then disappears, you are ready to go)

 

TRADITIONAL CANADIAN BAGEL SANDWICH

Traditionally made of yeasted wheat dough in the form of a ring, the bagels are the Canadians' favourite breakfast menu. Having originated in central Europe, the immigrants brought this to North America. Presently, two major varieties are quite popular – the New York Bagel & the Montreal bagel. Bagels come in different flavours, topped with se sam e seeds, poppy seeds, onion, garlic & cheese .

Ingredients

4 whole wheat or other flavored bagels, cut in half
Vegetable cream cheese
4 slices Cheddar or Swiss cheese
4 Thin slices of avocado
4 thin slices ripe tomato
16 thin slices cucumber

Lightly toast the bagel in toaster and spread bagel half with cream cheese on it.

Add a slice of cheese, and a slice of avocado, a slice tomato and 4 slices of cucumber. Top with remaining bagel half. Repeat this for the other bagels.

Note: This can also be made with pita bread, or fresh wheat bread.
